Transfer Checklist
As a transfer student, understanding your options and planning ahead is crucial for a smooth transfer. Please utilize the steps and tools below to guide you through the transfer process.
1. RESEARCH
Begin searching for institutions in Tennessee that offer features that are important in your journey such as:
- Major
- Location
- Campus size
- Admission requirements
- Scholarships
- Class availability
- Academic calendar and deadlines
- How credit will be transferred
Please note: Students that complete an approved Tennessee Transfer Pathway are guaranteed admissions to a participating university. This guarantee does not include admission to a specific program or admission to the University of Tennessee, Knoxville.
2. DISCUSS
Be sure to discuss your plans with your academic advisor to ensure you’re taking the right courses. You can also work with an admissions counselor at the institution where you intend to transfer.
3. APPLY
Once you’ve selected your next college or university, complete the transfer admission application and send requested documents.
4. REQUEST
Request official transcripts from ALL previous institutions attended or any test scores (i.e. AP or CLEP). Some colleges and universities may also require a high school transcript. A final transcript will be required at the end of your last semester prior to transferring.
5. REVIEW
Review previous coursework to understanding how each course is evaluated. Each institution is unique in how they evaluate transfer credit. Utilize a transfer equivalency table to help in your course planning.
6. SUBMIT
Submit the free application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) and any scholarship applications by the deadline.
7. PREPARE
Once you’ve been admitted, continue to follow the enrollment process to attend orientation, meet with your new advisor, and register for classes.
