Application Instructions

Admission Process

  1. Complete the online undergraduate application for admission. Be sure to answer all items contained in the application to assist in determining your admission status.

  2. Send the completed application agreement statement, official transcript (in a sealed, stamped envelope), SAT/ACT scores, 500–word essay and a nonrefundable $30 (U.S.) application fee by March 1 (new, first-time undergraduate students) or June 1 (new transfer students).

  3. Submit three letters of recommendation. One letter should be from your guidance counselor and the other two may be from teachers, mentors, etc. The letters of recommendation should reference your commitment to education, moral character, and record of leadership/service.

  4. Make your check or money order payable to Fisk University. Please do not send cash.

  5. The Fisk University undergraduate catalog is ONLY available online at www.fisk.edu.

  6. Applicants will receive confirmation from the Office of Admission when your application has been received. It is incumbent upon the applicant to follow-up with additional items, questions, etc. Applicants may contact Ms. Tanesha Carney at tcarney@fisk.edu with questions about the status of their application.

Scholarship Process

  1. Fisk University only awards scholarships based on a combination of academic merit, service, and demonstrated leadership. Scholarships are not guaranteed as applicants are chosen from the overall applicant pool. There is no separate scholarship application but all students are strongly encouraged to complete the Free Application for Federal Students Aid (FAFSA) as soon after January 1 as possible.   2. Fisk University Scholarship Nomination Criteria:

    1. Presidential: 3.7 unweighted GPA, ACT composite 28 or SAT 1860 composite required for nomination
    2. Full tuition: 3.3 unweighted GPA, ACT composite 25 or SAT composite required for nomination
    3. General academic: 3.0 unweighted GPA, ACT composite 23 or SAT composite required for consideration

  3. The Office of Student Financial Aid will begin to award scholarships and announce nominations on or around December of the applicant's senior year.

  4. Applicants are encouraged to complete profiles at the following websites: www.uncf.org and fastweb.com for outside scholarship information.

Financial Aid Process

  1. Applicant must complete admission process AND receive official letter of acceptance from the Office of Admission.

  2. Applicant (and parents/guardians) must complete the FAFSA (www.fafsa.ed.gov). The Fisk code for FAFSA is 003490. FAFSA should be delivered to the Fisk University Office of Student Financial Aid by March 1 to receive priority consideration. (The FAFSA is delivered electronically from the U.S. Department of Education once the process is complete and has been analyzed).

  3. The Office of Student Financial Aid expects to deliver financial aid awards in March. Notification of these awards is electronic ONLY. The notification should arrive to the email included on the completed FAFSA. It is incumbent upon the applicant to ensure that this electronic address is correct and working.

How to Use the Fisk University Online Application

To complete the online application, simply type your answers in the corresponding fields or select your answers from the popup lists (where applicable).

After you complete a screen, click the NEXT button at the bottom or on one of the sections listed on the left column to move to a different screen. Before you are allowed to jump screens, we will inspect your data on the current screen for errors or inconsistencies. If errors or omissions are found, you will be returned to the screen to correct your answer(s). Otherwise, your data will be saved and you will proceed to the requested screen. We also allow you to skip to another screen without your new data being saved. Be aware that if you use the Skip & Jump function on the left column, data on the current screen will not be saved and will have to be re-entered prior to submittal.

Once you have completed the application, click the 'SUBMIT' button located on the left column to submit the application.
